Dalton Meserve Blades

Dalton-Meserve blades were attached to the ends of spears. Thrown by arm or with the aid of a spear-thrower (atlatl), such spears were the primary hunting weapon for thousands of years, before being replaced by the bow and arrow.

Dalton-Meserve blades are found throughout the Great Plains, from the Rockies to the Mississippi River, from Texas to Canada.  Dalton-Meserve blades may have evolved from the Plainview lanceolate blades of the earlier, Paleo-Indian period. Plainview blades have been found in association with the extinct Ice Age bison.
