Manuscript Collection: Fred Damman
Collection Overview
Collection summary derived from "Guidebook to Manuscripts", 1969: These papers concern Fred Dammon's military career, mostly in the Philippines. It is a collection of special orders, field orders, maps, recruitment, a photostat of Damman's certificate of completion of Spanish course in Manila, and a railway ticket. Also included are a letter from Brigadier General John J. Pershing, a note from Brigadier General Douglas MacArthur, and an invitation to visit Kawit, Cavite, to E. Aguinaldo. There is a newspaper clipping with a picture of Damman as Chairman of a Veterans Fourth of July Parade, a photocopy of a letter from Henry L. Stimson, Governor-General to Damman commending his work as Chairman of a Memorial Day Committee. Also included is Carbon Copy (and typed copy) of letter from General Douglas MacArthur congratulating Damman's retirement. There are 2 typescript items: a typescript regarding the U.S. Army's occupation of the Philippines on July 4,1902, and a typescript "The Philippine Scouts Romance", disbanded in 1946. Two books are included- a loose-leaf note book containing typescript "The Philippine Quartermaster Depot" cites statistics in 1927, 1928, and 1929, and a small bound book which begins "For Sale" and lists three pages of Philippines items with amounts opposite, other and begins "Customers" and lists six persons or firms. (This item may relate to Oriental Trading Company, San Diego, California, whose stationery was used in folder 11.)

Provenance
The Gilcrease Foundation acquired these materials before 1964 and is housed in the Helmerich Center for American Research (HCAR). The library currently receives most materials through community donation, board members, artists and the acquisition of manuscript collections.
Staff, interns, and volunteers of the Thomas Gilcrease Library and Archive have contributed to the organization and maintenance of the files since the collection passed to the City of Tulsa in the 1950s.
