Collection summary derived from "Guidebook to Manuscripts", 1969: This collection of letters and documents is related to Indian affairs in North America during and just after the Revolutionary War. Included are letters to and from Sir John Johnson, General in the British Army. There are accounts of sundries issued to Indian scouts (Montreal, May, 1778) and others. Sir Frederick Haldimand (1718 - 1791), a Swiss soldier, was British governor and commander in chief in Canada from 1778 to 1784. He assisted many American colonists who remained loyal to Britain to settle in Canada. He was born in Neuchatel, Switzerland, and entered the British Army in 1756.

Provenance
The Gilcrease Foundation acquired these materials before 1964 and is housed in the Helmerich Center for American Research (HCAR). The library currently receives most materials through community donation, board members, artists and the acquisition of manuscript collections.
Staff, interns, and volunteers of the Thomas Gilcrease Library and Archive have contributed to the organization and maintenance of the files since the collection passed to the City of Tulsa in the 1950s.
