Collection Overview

Collection summary derived from "Guidebook to Manuscripts", 1969: 4 folders cover the T.F. Healy papers, which consist of mostly receipts for purchases, rental agreements, or debts owed. Impressively included are 23 boxes of "clippings". In general, these seem to be newspaper or magazine articles about topics that interested Mr. Healy. Included are Business Interests like lumber, iron and steel, mining and railroads, Political Subjects, including political cartoons by Robert Nast, Tammany Hall, United States Presidents and Royalty, and Women's Suffrage. He was also interested in Sports, including boat racing and baseball. New York City was prominent with collections of buildings, architecture, schools and well known people. His other interests ranged from firefighting to insects to camping to twins. He collected information on nursing, immigrants (the Irish) and theater. He has many articles involving fashion, shoes, sewing or jewelry. He had an interest in artists, including Frederick Remington. Articles on War range from a list of veterans from the Revolutionary War and the war of 1812, to the Franco - Prussian War.

Provenance

The Gilcrease Foundation acquired these materials before 1964 and is housed in the Helmerich Center for American Research (HCAR). The library currently receives most materials through community donation, board members, artists and the acquisition of manuscript collections.

Staff, interns, and volunteers of the Thomas Gilcrease Library and Archive have contributed to the organization and maintenance of the files since the collection passed to the City of Tulsa in the 1950s.
