The Union Papers include an anti-slavery poem, Brownlow's Dream: " The Future of Rebels and Copperheads", a roster and history of the 5th Iowa Infantry Volunteers, and an unsigned and undated manuscript called "The Little Recruit". Most letters are from Helena, Arkansas, and show he was discharged by May 10, 1863. The Timothy Warren Papers show his discharge from the Illinois Infantry. The James C. Watson papers contain his discharge papers and an envelope of the Department of Interior, The United states Indian Agency with the name Jessie Burchart.
