Manuscript Collection: Deitz Collection

Collection Overview

Collection summary derived from "Guidebook to Manuscripts", 1969: Two letters are from N. Longworth, Newark, New Jersey, to Mrs. Frances Hoskins, Savannah, Georgia. One asks about her welfare as well as her family's. He also speaks of home and that it has been a long time since he has been there, and the second comments on the length of time it took him to respond to her letter. He says that things have been busy and tells of recent events. Also included is an Ante-Nuptial agreement between Jacob Fahm and Mary Ann Frances Cook (daughter of Martha Cook), with trust, John B. Jones and Thomas Rodman are named as trustees. Later there is a settlement between Jacob Fahm and Mary Anne Frances Cook to John B. Jones and T.W. Rodman. The Last Will and Testament of Martha Cook, Beaufort, South Carolina is included as well as a Petition of the Planters Bank of the State of Georgia vs. Jacob Fahm for payment of $3,000 in notes dated February 17, 1823. Two items are tax returns of Mary Anne Frances Fahm, and a tax receipt for Mr. Deitz in 1869. A letter appoints Corporal Deitz to the committee of the July 4th celebration in Savannah in 1858.

Provenance

The Gilcrease Foundation acquired these materials before 1964 and is housed in the Helmerich Center for American Research (HCAR). The library currently receives most materials through community donation, board members, artists and the acquisition of manuscript collections.

Staff, interns, and volunteers of the Thomas Gilcrease Library and Archive have contributed to the organization and maintenance of the files since the collection passed to the City of Tulsa in the 1950s.
