Mississippian Flint Hoe

These flaked chert hoes commonly show use-wear along the bit edge.  They were likely used to dig soil in gardening or construction activities.  These tools were widely used throughout the southeastern United States.  They range in size from three to ten inches long.  These hoes could have been hafted with an in-line handle or a perpendicular handle.
