Woman’s beaded semi-tanned leather moccasins with geometric designs / Unknown
Essay/Description
Women’s beaded leather moccasins. Lanes of blue and yellow beading around perimeter. Two small lanes of beading, one yellow and red, the other blue and white, along instep. Vamp beaded with white background with blue geometric beading. Yellow curving design around cuff done with spot stitch, and the rest of the beading is lazy stitch. Zig-zag design on cuffs.
Curatorial Remarks
These moccasins are early 20th century and resemble Sioux style of design because the seam on the heel is not covered with bead work. These are not everyday moccasins because of the time frame they were made in. The bead work and serrated cuff or opening of the moccasin make this pair unusual.
