January 16, 1933. Mrs. Charles Russell, 725 Michigan Blvd., Pasadena, California Dear Nancy, Thank you for your letter of the 9th and for the photographs of "The Bronc Twister" "The Cryer" and "The Call of the Law" - which I am returning as per your request, herewith. I was delighted to have the opportunity of showing the photographs of the bronzes to Katharine for I had told her of them. "The Call of the Law" she, of course, knows. I am going to pass all of them up. It maybe that sometime I will add one or both of the bronzes though I am inclined to think that I would prefer to save the money toward a painting. Some day ^I^ am going to send "Smoking it Up" "The War Dancers" and "The Scalp Dancer" on to you to send on and have them recast or whatever is necessary to be done to make them do credit to Charlie and to the collection. I think I will wait however, ,until sometime when we are going to be away from home on a trip - so that we will not miss them as we otherwise would. Yes, I know that John Ritch owns "Watching the Buffalo Runners". I have mentioned to him the possibility of his wanting to sell and my being interested - if the price is right. The picture which appeals most to me is "Carson's Men" . Since the Campbells apparently don't want to sell I am sure i t i s better not to pursue them for that doesn't help any toward getting bar gains. Whenever you get any news of "Carson's Men" or anything else which you think I might be interested in I am sure you -ill pass on the information, for as you know I am continuing to strive to build the collection up - centered about Charlie. Everything is fine with me ru1d mine. I hope i t is with you and yours. Before long I am going to be s ending you sheets of mounted photographs to add to the album. It is quite a job getting these together. I am sure, however, that you appreciate your album enough to make it worth-while. The new sheets will contain many of Charlie's really best things- also a number of other good things. Incidently[sic], I am of course sending the new sheets on to the Memorial in Great Falls and to t he State Library in Helena. Katharine joins with me in every good wi sh . As always, [signed] Philip Dr. Philip G. Cole MVR End.
