After reading it through carefully several times, I have no more understanding of what is wrong than before I received the letter. It would be impossible for me to answer it in any form that would be at all satisfactory. The foundation you have for some of the very strong statements you have made are absolutely unknown to me. I have nothing but the kindest feeling for Mr. Fligman and the members of the Memorial Committee. This is not a personal matter with me nor has it ever been. I gave you the names and addresses of Charlie’s and my friends that I thought would be of service to you. There is nothing further I can do. I certainly would not damage the hope of success of the Memorial to Charlie in his own country. You may justly be proud of the very success- ful art exhibit that you have just finished. A great deal of credit is due all those connected with putting on and carrying out such an exhibition. Now that you have a little more time, I would ap- preciate it very much if you will kindly send me the clippings that I loaned you last Summer at the Lake. I explained to you some months ago that I would like to have these clippings to use in certain publicity that I am getting up. I am sure its an oversight on your part but I’d appreciate it if you will send them immediately.
