Handwritten notes are present on artwork; Inscribed by hand in pencil, “#3 Thunderbird” sideways in upper left on verso; Inscribed in type, “(#3) The Broken [Broken is written in pen] Thunder Bird In this painting the knowing eyes of the great eagle see all. His talons show strength; his great wings bring thunder. The great master of the air, flying beyond the storms and lightning, was the symbol of power, strength and knowledge to many ancient peoples. Even today our own money and shield carry this symbol. The eagle is held in great respect by the Indian. His feathers are sought and treasured for ceremonial purposes. Mythology tells of his power. From his eyes come the lightning. His wings drop rain, bringing prosperity. Almost every totem pole of the North-West tribes bears the eagle likeness.” on attached piece of paper in top center on verso
