Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone / William Robinson Robinson Leigh

Curatorial Remarks

It is important to note that these paintings are field works; they have characteristics that occur from the plein-air creation. I am aware that in some works there is imbedded foreign matter and in others there are small areas where paint is thin. These are consistent with outdoor work and should not prohibit their exhibition.

The frames are W.R. Leigh's design and construction. In most cases the works were installed in the frame by the artist. I have notes that there is no buffering between the canvas board and the frame. There are areas of scraped paint characteristic of the artist's installation of the canvas boards into the frames was done with nails; I would prefer that the frame installation be more secure, if possible (i.r., replacing the nails with mending plates).
