Gorham registered this series, marked Q92 on the base, on April 16, 1907. Allen sold his model and his rights to any say in the final appearance of the bronze casts, although he did earn a small royalty (probably 10%) on each sale. Gorham records indicate only two casts were made of this work: one made in 1907, which was not sold until 1916, and the bronze model (called Demand Use Casting Pattern) which sold in 1920 and indicates the end of Gorham’s production of this work, no doubt due to poor sales. The code Q followed by numbers was Gorham’s designation, beginning in 1905, for a bronze cast for which they owned the rights of reproduction. In contrast, Q followed by letters, beginning in 1906, indicated the artist retained the rights.
