Watermelon Thief / Willard Stone

Gallery Label

At Oktaha, a small farm town, we used to steal watermelons. Farmers expected it; they’d shoot over our heads. To steal watermelons was a big thing. This man was an expert. He could crawl through a patch on a moonlight night.

From the exhibition: Willard Stone: Following the Grain, 2016.
