Lady of Spring / Willard Stone

Gallery Label

...dedicated to all the flowers of nature, who, in the springtime, blossom out to show their appreciation to God for the right given them to live. The...figure of a woman bursting forth from the bud of life.” -Willard Stone, artist.

This figure can be seen as symbolic for the whole of nature as Stone portrayed it— a vital, cyclical force. She stands as a pinnacle of his awe for the natural world and the powerful inspiration it gave him. The wood grain in this work is ingeniously utilized.

From the exhibition: Willard Stone: Following the Grain, 2016.
