Chapel Rocks, Lake Superior / Thomas Moran
Curatorial Remarks
There is a faint line running across the image at about the midpoint, directly below the arch in the rocks. This is probably where two pieces of end-grain wood were joined to give a larger surface area for the image to be drawn. Wood engraving used the smaller end of a piece of wood, and when needed two pieces of wood were joined to provide a larger surface as possibly seen here.
