Memoranda number three of Charles Joseph Latrobe's fifty-three page diary describing his trip into Indian Territory

Scope and Content Notes

The page for September 18th carries a charming, hand drawing of their steamboat with American flag flying. Charles Joseph Latrobe was born in England and toured various cities in America, coming down the Mississippi River with Washington Irving in 1832 and 1833. Latrobe was widely educated and traveled and held high offices in Australia. This diary notebook is part of a set of nine describing Charles Joseph Latrobe's daily activities during an excursion to Indian Territory in 1832-1833. These writings were later expanded into the two-volume set "Rambler in North America", published in 1835. Folder 1
