Draft copy of letter from Chief John Ross to Major James C. Martin expressing hope that conferences will lead to a new treaty in which 'Cherokee concede a portion of our national rights for the best consideration which can be obtained.' (Moulton). Letter also states that the Secretary of War has agreed to Colonel Lindsay's suggestion that Creek Indians be allowed to remain at peace in the Cherokee Nation.
