Curatorial Remarks

This appears to be a photograph of Thomas Moran's 1892 oil painting, Grand Canyon of the Colorados. The painting was initially purchased by George H. Lorimer, editor of the Saturday Evening Post and displayed in his office at the magazine. His son, Graeme Lorimer, gifted the painting to the Phildelphia Museum of Art where it remains today, accession number 1975-182-1. The work was also reproduced as a chromolithograph by Gustave Buek and the American Lithograph Company as the Grand Canyon of the Colorado. The Gilcrease collection includes this chromolithograph, 16.221c.
