Former Principal Chief of the Choctaw Nation, 1864-1866 / Unknown

Essay/Description

Explanation for the secondary title listing Pitchlynn as "Governor": Between 1857-1860 there were competing constitutions and one of them used the term 'governor' which is perhaps why the term was used. But by the time that Pitchlynn was chief, the 1860 Constitution used the term 'principal chief'.
