Frog Effigy Vessel -- Large frog effigy pot of dark gray ware; frog head, legs and arms in relief on body; rim decorated with a row of small round nodes
Bell Plain pottery type -- Bell Plain is prevalent at sites along the Mississippi River in Arkansas. It has finely crushed shell temper, a well-polished to highly polished surface, and varies in color from shades of gray to buff to orange (pp 10-12, Hathcock, Roy).
Curatorial Remarks:
Bell Plain (Phillips 1970:58-61) bowl with direct rim and over-hung flattened lip with nodes around the rim. Ovoid body with appliqued zoomorphic head with two noded eyes and incised mouth and four appliqued curved lines with the lower ends with four incisions, appliqued ring at the opposite side of the head. Rounded circular base. 10YR 6/2 Light Brownish Gray.
