Essay/Description

Ceramic seated effigy. Mold formed. Figure is shown wearing a headdress, earrings, necklace, and clothing. Some traces of paint are visible.

The figure is made in the Jaina Island Style. Jania Island, off the coast of the present state of Campeche in the Yucatan Peninsula, maintained a large Mayan cemetery where ceramic figurines were often interred with the dead.
