Animal Effigy Bowl -- Deep conical effigy bowl of brown ware, 4 legged animal (possibly a dog) on rim; peculiar protuberance, possibly a curled tail, on opposite side of rim; edge of bowl decorated with 3 parallel incised lines
Bell Plain pottery type -- Bell Plain is prevalent at sites along the Mississippi River in Arkansas. It has finely crushed shell temper, a well polished to highly polished surface, and varies in color from shades of gray to buff to orange (pp 10-12, Hathcock, Roy).
Curatorial Remarks:
Fulton Aspect Effigy Bowl (Suhm and Jelks 1962:46-49). Conical bowl with three engraved lines with notching around the direct rim with rounded lip. Tail lug attached at the appliqued zoomorphic effigy on top, possible dog. Curved appendage opposite of tail lug contains engraved cross-hatching. Flat circular base.10YR 5/1 Gray.4
