Coiled basket tray with various geometric designs / Native American; Pima

Essay/Description

Small coiled basket with various geometric designs.

The majority of basketry produced by the Pima is plaques or shallow bowls. Willow was traditionally used because it is sturdy and lasts through daily use, but because the Pima people now use modern products, basket weavers have begun using yucca, which is more readily accessible (Dalrymple 2000, 97-103).
