War club with stick handle attached to a rock head with a secure wrap of rawhide / Native American; Plains

Essay/Description

War Club -- The club is constructed of a stick handle attached to a rock head with a secure wrap of rawhide. Buckskin bands at the head and butt ends of the handle are decorated with red, white, green, blue, light blue, yellow, and orange seed beads.

Many Plains tribes used stone-headed clubs in warfare. These clubs often had a wooden handle, which would attach to the stone head with rawhide thongs. The handles of war clubs were often decorated with beads or quills and hair.
