Glass bead necklace / Native American; Yupik-Inupiaq

Essay/Description

Trade bead necklace.

The Inuit frequently traded with China and Russia, who gave the Inuit many materials, including beads, for ivory and furs. The Native Americans greatly valued these beads because the beads they made were arduously crafted one at a time and, therefore, were valuable and rare (Dubin 1999, 172).
