Essay/Description

Soft soled beaded leather moccasins with floral patterns and images of birds on the cuff. Cotton has been included on the interior and around the cuff . The bead work is completed with a spot stitch rather than a lazy stitch, allowing the beads to remain in a firmer position.

In the Northeastern tribes, men and women would wear moccasins or boots made from animals’ hocks, or hind legs. The footwear was sometimes decorated with quillwork or embroidery. Floral and nature-inspired patterns were the most frequently used (Paterek 1994, 42-43).
