Macaw loose feather fan / Phil Dupoint

Essay/Description

A loose fan of 13 macaw feathers. 12 are red and blue. One is green and blue. All have dyed hackle feather trim at their base in green, black, white, pink, and red. The center feather is trimmed with yellow chicken feathers and feathers of unknown type with tuffs of white with black dots. 2 chrome spots also decorate this center feather. White shoe-polished leather extensions attach the feathers to the handle. The removable handle is made from a shotgun rod that is gourd stitched in plain and cut beads in white, black, lime green, red, dark orange, yellow, and dark green on a mauve background. At the base of the handle 14 2-ply white buckskin fringes attach.

Navajo macaw loose feather fan. This fan is part of the Harding Big Bow collection and used by the Kiowa.
