Woman's beaded leather moccasins / Unknown
Essay/Description
Woman’s beaded leather moccasins. White beaded field with stepped-triangular and zoomorphic designs around the perimeter, and a bird design on vamp. Lane of beadwork across instep. Top of cuff is beaded with a row of mostly colorless transparent beads. Split “V” style cuff. All beadwork done with lazy stitch.
Curatorial Remarks
These moccasins may have been worn by a woman. The moccasins were definitely made by a woman in the 20th century. Omit the word "woman" in the title to be more general since we don't know what gender wore the moccasins. In the 20th century, moccasins would have been made for ceremonial events including pow wow and some for commercial sale.
