Child's beaded moccasins with buffalo and leaf designs / Bushyhead

Essay/Description

This pair of child's moccasins is fully beaded in clear beads with bison designs in cranberry and white beads and leaves of green beads. There are clear beads encircling the opening of the moccasins. On the back of the ankle of the moccasins there are two groups of two lines of green beads. "Bushyhead" is written with ink in black on the soles. These moccasins were made by the wife of Osage Chief Bacon Rind.

Curatorial Remarks

Bushyhead was a Cherokee Christian leader. Made by the Cherokee wife of Osage Chief Bacon Rind. These moccasins are late 19th century, post-Civil War Cherokee moccasins. These were created with influence of the Cheyenne style.
