Parts of a dance repair kit / Steve and Tony Bolinger

Essay/Description

This was part of an Osage Dance Repair Kit: 11 spools of various colored thread, one black velveteen ribbon, one piece of twine, two scraps of white silk, seven pieces of tanned leather, one ball of aqua wood, several silk ribbons, red, green, and aqua fabric trim, and two pieces of white one inch elastic.

Curatorial Remarks

This likely belonged to a woman, either a mother or wife of a dancer. This would have been used for straight dance clothing. After the dance, if something falls off of a dancer's clothing, a tail dancer will pick it up and return it to the person who dropped it for a gift in return. The gift is put onto the drum.
