Essay/Description
Men’s beaded and quilled leather moccasins. Lane of green beadwork around perimeter with geometric designs. Red quillwork field with geometric designs in center of vamp. All beadwork is done with lazy stitch.
Curatorial Remarks
Men's quill work moccasins. The quill work indicates that these are probably Northern Cheyenne or Sioux. There is a yellow dyed quilled cross on the vamp of each moccasin. The leather could be smoked tanned, which makes the leather waterproof. The moccasins are late 19th century. These would have been too delicate for domestic use.
