Girl’s semi-tanned leather leggings with beaded geometric designs and green and yellow-orange stain / Unknown

Essay/Description

The leggings are constructed of several pieces of leather. The top border sections (blue and red beads secured by sinew lazy stitch to the hide) are sewn to the central beaded panel of the leggings with cotton thread. The lower unbeaded sections are sewn with sinew to the central beaded panels. Legging b has two additional seams: one square patch of hide has been attached on the back to the central beaded panel with brown cotton thread presumably to repair a hole in the hide that is now covered with beads on the front and a long narrow section of hide has been attached with sinew to the lower unbeaded panel to complete the edge. The exposed hide between the beaded border and the beaded panel (also lazy stitch with sinew) on the lower section is stained green on the front. The exposed hide below the beaded panels is stained yellow-orange on the front. Both leggings are open lengthwise on one side that has been pierced with holes to hold semi-tanned leather laces for securing leggings to the legs.
