Curatorial Remarks

This is likely a woman's purse. By the 1920s, women began to carry purses for transporting money and other things. Before that, pouches were used to fit on belts to carry things. Purses are of European influence. The style of the beadwork appears to be Apache, but there may be associated with the Cheyenne if this bag came from Mohonk Lodge. Drawstrings such as the one on this bag has European influence from the early 1900s.
