Man's cotton patchwork big shirt / Maggie Osceola

Essay/Description

Patchwork foksikcobi ("Big Shirt") made up of various colors of cotton. This shirt has a rectangular yoke, tab collar, and square gussets. All areas of the shirt are also decorated with various colors of applique ric-rac.

Curatorial Remarks

The Gullah people from West Africa may have influence on the Seminole tribe material culture style. A Seminole community in Oklahoma continues to speak Gullah today.
