Dark blue man's leggings made from stroud cloth / Unknown

Essay/Description

Dark blue stroud cloth with a 1/2” yellow band from top to bottom on the back side of the flap. Bordered on side and hem with red satin ribbon. The side flap is decorated with red and peach satin ribbon in a stair step design. On the inside edge of the side flap decoration, the light red ribbon shows a little from beneath the peach. The stitching is by machine and the legging stitching tapers towards the ankle. The ties are stitched on the outside of the leggings. The decoration on the side flap is not secured at the top.

Men in the Plains region sometimes wore leggings made of tanned skin to stay warm and protect their legs. Cloth was not introduced and used until later when wool and cotton became more accessible.
