Dear Judge: Your letter of April 14th, with the enclosure made me feel better than anything I have received. Firstly because I remember so clearly how you counseled me not to make a fight about the studio in Great Falls but to let those folks have their own way which I did. Now, when I read a line in your letter in which you say you sincerely trust I will keep up the fight till I win, makes me feel we have a just cause for protest. With backing like that, my courage will not fail. The letter to Uncle John was perfect and I hope you will follow it up with another that will give him some idea of how to side-step and help the Governor reconsider and stop the Commission. You see the en- closed editorial has taken the matter up and now it is a National issue. The following is a telegram I sent Lorado Taft: “Great Falls news state model of Charlie Russell by Mrs. Lincoln is highly praised by you. I have only seen photo- graphs but cannot see resemblance to Char- lie and consider it most unworthy. Are you correctly quoted. Please advise me wire collect..” I don’t know whether or not you saw Loredo Taft’s answer to my telegram but here it is: “Found little model unconventionally inter- esting. Could not judge of likeness since I met Mr. Russell but once years ago.” I don’t call that high praise do you? Mr. J.W.
