My dear friends: Your letter of July 13th received and we were so glad to hear from you and are sorry it is impossible for you to come to us this year, but not as sorry as we were because the forest fires are spoiling all the beautiful views we have. The smoke is so dense the mountains are covered most of the time, but I have no doubt you folks are getting the effect of the mountain fires too. Charlie is improving every day, not very strong but very happy and I am quite sure he will be a great deal better. It will be impossible for us to move around much this sum- mer so we cannot come to you which makes me very sad as somehow.last winter our visits were not very satisfactory because I always seemed to have to go back to New York just when I wanted to stay in Englewood.
