[1] [handwritten] Dec 31st 28 My dear Nancy --- “Where the trails of men are far apart” how Charley did love a country like that – and so we feel that a lot of the real Charley Russell is in the Water color and so we cherish it – and thank you for it – we had [2] a very happy Christmas with all present and on their feet- Helen took Mary-Ellen to Camden S.C. last Thursday and I will join them when the boys go back to school – So now its[sic] bachelor camp here- next Friday Dr. [Grimmell]-Chas Tainter – [Quantina] and Mr. [Holmon] are all coming to see Charleys[sic] picture, so you see how his work is realy[sic] appreciated here – a very happy ^New^ year to you and Jack. ^very Sincerely^ Malcolm S.
