Apgar, Montana July 22, 1927 Mr. Charles O. Middleton 520 Roosevelt Bldg. Los Angeles, California Dear Mr. Middleton: Thank you for the check in your letter of July 14th for the Will Rogers bronze sold by Ed Borein. He is pretty smart. I know you have my summer address now and I appreciate your sending letters in duplicate so that I would hear from some of my friends in the Southland. I am awful sorry you and the Smiths are not going to be able to come up this summer. Since the rains have ceased the mountains and the country are very beautiful. I am going to take my little family, that is Mrs. DeYong, Jack, Martha, Ted, a guide and myself and go for an eight or ten day pack trip. This may not appeal to you at all but I have always wanted to do it and Charlie and I planned it many times. If it is a success next summer maybe you people would like to try it. I had a sweet little letter from Santa Barbara and in it was a hope or a chance that a couple of folks might hop the train and come to Glacier Park for two weeks late in August. If that can be arranged there will be a warm welcome at Bull Head Lodge. I want to explain about my address. The telegraph and express office is Belton, Montana and my mail comes either to Belton or Apgar which is a summer office so mail addressed to either place is delivered. I know you will be interested to hear I have sold the painting “In the Enemies Country” to an old client in New York, Mr. Sack. He is at the present time in Canada but I sent him a photograph and he remembered seeing the painting. It makes me kind of sick as I see my collection gradually dwindling but I guess life is that way. My very kindest regards to any and all of my friends. Sincerely, MRG
