Dear Mrs. Russell:- In my letter this am, I forgot to tell you, in your enthu- siasm over the portraits not to mention it at present in Pasadena.^about the sale^ Altho[sic] Mr. Cole bought my work before coming here, I met him the first time in Schroeder’s gallery during my exhibit, and he would demand a commission if he heard I sold some, and I preferred to allow Mr. Cole that price instead of the marked price. And, let me add, if in future you should show Charley’s work work in Pasadena, do it on your own and not thro[sic]a dealer – my experience all over the country is not pleasing and many of them are tricky – I have had advantage taken many times, so have most of the Taos fellows until we are up in arms – I suppose you have had your experience, too, and learned.
