Russell of a priest being robbed by two men, written on the painting is 'If coin is the root of all evil your reverence is going to weed its the work of a saint not a sinner to shake your clothes out for the seed' and in the lower left corner is Russell's signature is visible along with the date of 1915. Typed on the back in black ink is 'Fleecing the Priest - - 1915; watercolor in full colors by Charles M. Russell size 9 1/2 by 12 3/4 inches owned by R. W. Norton, Jr., Shreveport, La.'
