Russell. Mr. Cowan was the husband of B.M. Bower, author of 'Chip of the Flying U' illustrated by Russell--and the 'Flying U' brand is indented in the book ends. These book ends show two studies of Russell--with and without his hat, and are probably unique in that it was rare, if ever he modeled himself in clay.'
