Book Ends

Scope and Content Notes

Page from an album with photograph pasted onto the paper. Image is of two bronze casted book ends with Charles M. Russell's profile, signed by the artist. Text pasted below, 'History: Four sets only of these book ends were cast from the original clay models, presented as a birthday gift in 1920 to 'Bud' Cowan--old time cowman and personal friend of C.M. Russell. Mr. Cowan was the husband of B.M. Bower, author of 'Chip of the Flying U' illustrated by Russell--and the 'Flying U' brand is indented in the book ends. These book ends show two studies of Russell--with and without his hat, and are probably unique in that it was rare, if ever he modeled himself in clay.'
