Pasted on the back is a text panel that reads: 'The piegan Indian mother, following the tradition of the tribe, steps from her teepee at the first streak of dawn and facing East offers her male child to the 'Sun Gods.' This was a piegan Legend, and was considered 'Good Medicin.' Russell modelled this figure in 1902.'
