May 23, 1929. Mrs. T. G. Portis, 5883 Enright Ave., St. Louis, Mo. Dear Sue: Thank you for your letter telling me about Charlie’s pony. I thought the dog’s name was “Gyp” and not the pony but it really makes very little difference and I’m glad to get Archie Douglass’ address, as I wanted to ask him a few questions about the friendship he and Charlie had. You see, Sue, I’m trying to get together real facts about Charlie as a child because it has such great bearing on his life and the wonderful strides he made in the work that he could not help doing; it’s the little homely things like his playing with his pony and intimate things tat occurred at Oak Hill. Father told me a great many things and I’ve hear Charlie laugh and talk about things so can get a little of that atmosphere, I believe. I’ll be going North some time[sic] in June for two and a half months stay. Hope you will be comfortable this summer in the quarters that you now have. It sounds very attractive. Lots of love.
