[1] Pasadena, California. April 24, 1931. Mrs. Cal Hubbard, 215 Third Street, North, Great Falls, Montana. Dearest Kate: Your dandy letter received and I feel like a dog that I haven’t answered but ‘by golly’ I have had no time. I appreciate Cal’s letter of explanation of April 8th, and I still feel you two are my friends but it was something of a jolt to read what Dr. Longe- way had to say. Friendship is a very peculiar thing. ‘Nuff sed! The enclosed clipping will show that the thing is a National issue now and I wonder what will really come out of it – something good because right will win. Now about you and your darling family. Josephine and mama Trigg brought messages from you that made me feel very close to you and there have been times that I should like to put my head on your shoulder and spill tears down your neck but that might have spoiled a pretty dress so I bubbled all to myself. I hear your new house is coming along and what fun you will have getting things in order. Isn’t it just fine to have a man who loves your boys and take them under his wing as that nice Cal has done? And then it is fine to be loved by somebody like him. He ap- preciates you and you appreciate him and a team like that is sure to make the grade without one hitch. Mama Trigg has been very tired but is feeling more like herself today. Just to give you a little inkling of what has been going on here – Yesterday I expected seven for luncheon and we were eleven. Last evening thirteen -2- Mrs. Cal Hubbard for dinner with no one but Vera to help me carry the kitchen end of the house so yours truly is a little nervous and a little tired. I am going to have an honest to goodness maid next year you can bet on that. Kate I have so much writing to do that I will just have to tell you I love you much and write to me when you feel like it as I am always crazy to hear from you. Love to you all. Sincerely, Encl.
