Dear Uncle John and Lady Lewis: We had a wonderful trip home and wish you both could have been along. We arrived here Friday night in time to make our beds and get some food in for break- fast. I want to tell you how much I appreciate the company of Lady Lewis over miles and miles of road and I had such a good time on that mad dash to and from Lewis- town, especially when we went around curves where the gravel was loose. I’ll swear by a Ford with Mr. Lewis at the wheel. However, I can’t say so much for Billy Grills’ food. I think we are spoiled by the food Lady Lewis hands out to us. My, it was nice to see you folks as much as I did this summer but it wasn’t half enough at that and I am more than glad of our visit to Lewistown. There isn’t a doubt in my mind but that everything is going to be O.K. when the legislature meets this winter. I want to be of every help within my poser so please tell me if there is anything I can do that will be of assist- ance. I can’t presume to suggest any way to start a movement to raise the funds that will interest the State at the right moment, or put strings on the money so that it will be used for the honor of the State and do credit to Charlie Russell, or to have the proper representatives ready to meet the issue when it comes. As soon as election is over, you and Mr. Ritch will outline a letter that will cover all the requirements. Lady Lewis, if there are any questions I can answer or any information I can give, please ask me and I shall be so glad to reply immediately. So long as you aren’t coming to California this fall here’s hoping the plans being made to [take] advan- Mr. John E. Lewis -2- tage of the month it is possible for you people to get away and go down to Williamsberg to see Dr. Lock about Mrs. Lewis’ feet. I have the strongest hunch he can do a great deal for both of you and if he does, I will try to go and have him work me over the aches in my joints. My very best love to you both including Claudia.
