Spuds and Spatulates

The spatulate is thought to be a ceremonial artifact. Tennessee greenstone, ironstone, steatite, slate, quartzite and/or fine-grained sandstone are commonly used in their manufacture.

Drilled spuds are more commonly found in Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama, and spuds that are not drilled or are partially drilled are more commonly found in Arkansas and Missouri.
