Scope and Content Notes

4026.3316 showed compensation for volunteer cavalry troops of the Confederate Army. Each member of the regiment had to have a good serviceable horse which he would receive $0.40 a day for the use of. If the horse was killed in action the volunteer would receive compensation according to their appraised value. In addition to pay every man would recieve$21.00 every six months in lieu of clothing. 4026.3316.1 is a note written in pencil concerning allowances, by rank, for rations, forage, and servants in the U. S. Army. Note stated that the writer presumed the same allowances were allowed in the Confederate Army. Folder 258
